Dun Laoghaire (Dun Leery)

Day 32 and 33 ...Goodbye to Hawth, we had our last day there yesterday and were joined by willing crewmates Roy and Mary. They arrived very late as their journey by ferry, bus and train from Wales had not been as straightforward as they had planned. Hawth has been a wonderful place to stay and in the end we have spent a week here. It is very picturesque, with a lovely town, stunning cliff walks, the fisherman's quay with fresh fish shops and restaurants. On top of that only a 20 minute Dart train journey to Dublin. The yacht club couldn't have been friendlier and it is such a thriving club which is so good to see.

So we set off after lunch on day 33 for Dun Laoghaire , a 10 mile trip across Dublin Bay. Unbelievably the weather was gorgeous and the sea was calm and I couldn't have asked for a better trip. Perhaps our luck has changed.

When we got to Dun Laogharie there were lots of little Optimists and other small dinghies with exuberant young sailors having fun on the water. It was a very cheery, colourful sight to welcome us in.

There are four yacht/sailing clubs here including the Royal Irish Yacht Club which we will be visiting later. The weather seems to have settled down and I hope Summer has finally arrived. We will be pressing on to Greystones tomorrow to make the most of this settled spell

Day 43 Gosport to Brighton

Sunrise Portsmouth as we were leaving  Dear Readers, firstly a correction, as I discovered that Cowes week is not until Saturday 30 July, so not sure which event the racing yachts were taking part in on day 41's blog. Either way it had been a lovely sight.  Spinnaker tower early morning. So at 5.30am on 13th July we left Haslar Marina, Gosport headed for Brighton. It was going to be a long trip of 9 hours and we had to catch the tide, so off we went at this very early hour, but there was a wonderful sunrise as our reward for the early start. We made good progress doing 6 knots through the Looe channel, the narrow channel out of the Solent. However by 10am the wind had dropped and it was flat clam and getting very hot. About an hour off of Brighton marina I rang the marina to ask for a berth, to be told that there was no room for visitors because all the visitor pontoons had been taken up so that dredging could take place. Glencoe - call of the wild

A short but interesting blog. We all experienced a "call of the wild" on our trip to Glencoe. The Glencoe valley mountains.   Water nymphs We drove along the road and parked in a suitable spot. The  sun was out, it was really hot and the scenery looked stunning. We weren't really sure where we were so Steve shot off up the mountain to do a reccy. He was gone about half an hour so we tried ringing him but no signal and we were beginning to worry that he may have fallen and broken his ankle or something!. So Josh volunteered to look for him and also disappeared up over the top of the mountain. He came down after about quarter of an hour wet up to his knees as he had fallen into a bog. Steve then appeared around the corner having found another car park which we proceeded to. So that was their "call of the wild." Goodbye to the Broch, Hello Lossiemouth

We finally said goodbye to The Broch and set off at 7 am for Lossiemouth, some 35 miles away. We were sorry to leave Fraserburgh as we had grown fond of it and thanks again to Lianne who gave us useful information and recommendations of where to go and did our laundry for us! You are now an honorary Lunar-tic. Me, Josh and Lianne on Lunar Sea at Fraserburgh. The weather was calm but overcast and we did get showers later on, but all in all an uneventful sail except that it took much longer than we thought. The tide should have been with us but for some reason we didn't get the benefit of it so it was 5pm before we reached the harbour. RAF Lossiemouth is nearby so we had a fly past of fighter jets as we arrived. Josh saw a whale on the way up, but as I was reading by the time I looked up it had disappeared and only a ring on the water showed where it had been. We also saw some porpoise in the distance.
