Banging Bangor

Lovely Bangor Marina
Day 17 - started with lovely sunny weather but as the morning went on we had very heavy showers. It wasn't so bad because in between the showers we had quite warm sunshine but the showers were pretty fierce in between.

Lampposts decorated with sails in the Main Street.
Ali got the train to Belfast to do some sightseeing and we stayed around Bangor. It is a lovely little place, very smart and well looked after in every respect. The high street lamp posts have been decorated with sails and there are benches in a sail shape. Ali had taken a walk around town yesterday evening and he had said that there are even wave patterns of coloured lights in the pavement at night. However respectable it is now it has had a rather colourful past , as this blue plaque on one of the local pubs illustrates.

I checked out the local swimming pool in the afternoon and was very impressed. It is new and has two pools which are sectioned off but these sections can be removed to make a 50 metre pool. It is very similar to K2 at Crawley, for those of you who know that pool.

My walk to the pool took about 30 minutes, through two lovely parks. They had aviaries, a war memorial and bench, a gun from a German submarine and  a lovely pergola walkway covered in sweet smelling climbers and flowers.

While I was swimming Josh found a large Chandlers, Bosun Bob, right next to the Marina, so he was happy for hours and spent too much money as usual! Bangor is a first class marina and we have enjoyed our stay. We sadly say goodbye tomorrow morning as we have an early start to catch the tide which is important along our next bit of coast around Copeland Island. This has a nasty tide and it would be doubtful if we get through the channel at certain times because of the current. Hopefully we will be in Portaferry, on Strangford Lough by lunch time tomorrow.
Bangor is a five gold anchor marina, they don't come better than that!
