Port Edgar to Arbroath

Arbroath harbour

Due to tides we Port Edgar  left at 7.30am yesterday on our 10 hour journey to Arbroath. Unfortunately there were no other places of interest that we could get into on the way so we had to hunker down for another long sail. As usual the wind was stronger than forecast gusting to 30 knots for a while in the morning. The wind was behind us the whole way so we were literally rocking and rolling for the whole trip, not conducive to putting the kettle on! However I managed to cook dinner on the run and make several cups of tea and coffee so it was good for morale to have a hot meal. It was not a pleasant day, overcast, cloudy and chilly, so we were well wrapped up in the usual layers, warm jackets and woolly hats. I am becoming resigned to this although not how I imagined it would be, especially when you see our home towns are basking in sunshine! It is now 1 June so we are a month into our adventure now and amazingly I am still here! Josh is enjoying it though.
Summer sailing gear!!

We arrived about an hour too early even though we had switched off the engine for about three hours and sailed, which was lovely I have to say, so much quieter with the engine off and the boat seems to settle down and it is altogether more soothing. Time for my third snooze of the day!

At 6.45pm we judged there was now enough water in the harbour to get us into the lock so we made our approach in pouring rain and had to dodge the many fishing pots right outside the entrance. As there are rocks both sides and only a narrow safe passage at 299 degrees you haven’t got much room to dodge fishing pots! However we made it in to this very pretty little harbour, and met a fellow yacht, Juno, from our home port Ramsgate. We had to raft off as the harbour is small and several cats had come in so no room left on the pontoons. However we are only one boat off the pontoon so we could plug in to get electric and there is a pontoon and not a wall with a ladder, much to my relief. We will explore tomorrow, time for cocoa and an early night.
